The Russian government is trying to interfere in the 2016 U.N. election, the U.K.’s intelligence chief said Thursday, drawing a direct link between Moscow and Donald Trump’s campaign.
“We know that Russia tried to hack the U:election.
And we know that they did,” U.UK. spy chief James Clapper told reporters in New York.
Clapper also said that intelligence agencies have detected Russian hacking of U.NS and U.T. election systems in the U., and that the Russian government has also tried to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.
While the United States has not yet confirmed the scope of the interference, the spy chief said it was likely to have affected elections across the U
